ABOUT ME AND MY APPROACH TO THERAPY
Highly individualised, collaborative and caring

Dr. Owen Richardson (BA (Hons), GDip, DPsych)
Counselling Psychologist
I’m deeply passionate about helping people develop the skills to overcome life’s challenges, while providing a safe, supportive, and open space for growth. I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is the foundation of any successful treatment, which is why I take a collaborative, person-centered approach. My belief is that each individual is the true expert on themselves, and my role is to help you tap into your own wisdom and strengths.
I am a qualified Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults facing a wide range of challenges, including complex and multifaceted issues. In addition to my private practice, I have extensive experience in both Specialist and Secondary NHS mental health services. Currently, I serve as the clinical lead for Cambridge’s Complex Trauma Service.
My therapeutic approach draws from a variety of evidence-based psychological models, all recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). These models include:
-
Schema Therapy
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
-
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
-
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
-
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
-
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)
I tailor my treatment approach to fit the unique needs of each individual, often integrating aspects of multiple models to provide the most effective support.
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming or exhausting, but I’m here to help you navigate through the obstacles you may be facing. My goal is to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, build emotional resilience, and ultimately become the best version of yourself.
